Track vs. Release Level Artists
Track vs. Release Level Artists
Updated over 2 months ago

Understanding the difference between a track level artist and a release level artist is an important aspect in not only understanding how platforms organize and itemize your music, but in how royalties are paid out.

A release level artist is the artists listed on the album level, while track level artist names are the artists that make up the particular artists on each individual track.

So for example, for the Tom Misch album below Beat Tape 2, you will see the only artist listed on the album level is Tom Misch.

If we look at the song Nightgowns on the album Beat Tape 2, you will see that the artists on the track are Tom Misch and Loyle Carner. They are both the the track level artists.

Why does this matter? When submitting through Mogul for us to handle your registrations to say SoundExchange this is an important step in distinguishing who the performers were on the particular track in question that is being registered.
