The Difference Between Your Catalog and Your Registrations

Why they're different, what they show, and why a song can appear in one but not the other.

The short version

  • Catalog = every song Mogul knows about (pulled from your connected sources)

  • Registrations = songs that have been submitted for royalty collection

A song can exist in your Catalog without being Registered. Until it's registered, it is not collecting royalties.

What is your Catalog?

Your Catalog is Mogul's database of your songs. It's built by pulling data from the sources you connect. This can include your distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, etc.), your PRO (ASCAP, BMI), your Spotify artist profile, and others.

When you connect a source, Mogul imports the songs associated with that account. Those songs appear in your Catalog tab.

Being in your Catalog does not mean your songs are registered. It just means Mogul knows they exist.

What are your Registrations?

Registrations are the formal submissions that allow royalty collection organizations (the MLC, SoundExchange, your PRO) to identify your ownership of a song and pay you royalties for it.

The Registrations tab in Mogul shows:

  • Songs that are fully registered and actively collecting

  • Songs with issues that need to be fixed before they can collect (the "Fix Issues" section)

  • Songs that haven't been registered yet

Why is a song in my Catalog but not in Registrations?

This is the most common source of confusion. It happens when:

  • You released the song but never registered it at the MLC or your PRO

  • You registered it with your PRO but not at the MLC (these are separate registrations)

  • The registration exists somewhere but has missing data (like a missing ISRC) that's preventing it from being matched

What should I do?

Check your Registrations tab and work through the to-do list. Any song in Catalog that isn't also in Registrations (or has a "Fix" status) is not collecting royalties. If you're on Mogul Register or Concierge, our team will handle this for you.
