How to Add, Remove, or Edit Song Recipients

Need to update who receives royalties for a song? Here's how to add collaborators, fix incorrect recipients, and remove someone from a registration.

What is a song recipient?

A recipient is anyone who receives a share of royalties for a song. This includes co-writers, producers with a royalty deal, or other rights holders. Getting recipients right is critical because incorrect recipient information can cause royalty payments to go to the wrong person or be withheld entirely.

How to add a recipient to a song

  1. Go to Registrations and find the song you want to update.

  2. Click on the song to open its details.

  3. In the songwriter/ownership section, click Add Recipient or Add Co-writer.

  4. Enter the recipient's name, their ownership percentage (split), their PRO affiliation, and their IPI number if known.

  5. Save the changes. If the song is already registered, Mogul will submit the update to the relevant organizations.

How to remove an incorrect recipient

  1. Go to Registrations and find the affected song.

  2. Click into the songwriter/ownership section.

  3. Find the recipient you want to remove and click the remove or delete option next to their name.

  4. Confirm the change. Mogul will submit the correction to remove them from the registration.

If the song has already been registered with incorrect recipient information and the correction isn't available in the UI, contact support via the chat bubble, and we can manually submit an amendment on your behalf.

How to edit an existing recipient's information

If a recipient's name is misspelled, their split percentage is wrong, or their IPI number is incorrect:

  1. Go to the song in Registrations.

  2. Click on the recipient's entry to edit their details.

  3. Update the information and save.

How long do updates take to reflect?

Changes submitted through Mogul are processed by the MLC and PROs on their own timelines, which is typically 4–12 weeks. Mogul tracks the status and will update your Registrations page when confirmed.
