What Songtrust does
Songtrust is a global publishing administrator. It registers your songs with PROs and collection societies worldwide and collects both performance and mechanical royalties on your behalf in over 60 countries. If you're registered with Songtrust, they are actively collecting publishing royalties for the songs they have on file.
What Mogul does
Mogul is an auditing, tracking, and registration platform. It connects all your royalty sources into one dashboard, scans your catalog for registration gaps, flags missing or incomplete registrations, and (on Register and Concierge plans) submits fixes on your behalf. Mogul also tracks your total earnings across all sources, such as distributor income, publishing, and neighboring rights, in one place.
How they work together
The most important thing to understand: Mogul and Songtrust are not doing the same thing, and using both doesn't create a conflict.
Mogul's value when you have Songtrust is as an auditor: it can check whether Songtrust has successfully registered all your songs at the MLC, verify your PRO registrations are complete, and flag any songs in your catalog that Songtrust may have missed.
Why Mogul still shows to-do items when you use Songtrust
Seeing items in your Mogul Fix Issues list doesn't mean Songtrust has failed. It means Mogul has detected a registration that is incomplete or missing somewhere in the system. Common reasons this happens with Songtrust users:
Songs released after you enrolled with Songtrust — Songtrust may not have picked them up yet
Neighboring rights (SoundExchange) — Songtrust does not handle neighboring rights; SoundExchange is a separate registration that Mogul will flag
MLC registration delays — Songtrust submits to the MLC, but if a submission hasn't cleared yet, Mogul may still show it as pending
If Songtrust is already handling a registration that Mogul is flagging, you can dismiss that item in Mogul using the trash bin icon on the right side of each row — it won't affect any real registrations.
Do I need Mogul's publishing administration if I have Songtrust?
No. If Songtrust is your publishing administrator, you do not need to opt into Mogul's publishing administration. You can use Mogul purely as an auditing and tracking tool without any changes to your Songtrust arrangement.
