ASCAP has two separate account types
If you've set up both a songwriter account and a publishing entity (like "YOUR NAME MUSIC" or "YOUR LABEL PUBLISHING") at ASCAP, these are two distinct accounts with separate logins. Each serves a different purpose:
Writer/songwriter account: Linked to your IPI number as an individual creator. This is how ASCAP identifies you as the songwriter and pays your writer's share of performance royalties.
Publisher entity account: A separate business entity you've registered at ASCAP to collect the publisher's share of performance royalties.
Why Mogul needs both
When both accounts are connected, Mogul can:
See all songs registered under your writer IPI number
See all songs registered under your publishing entity
Cross-reference the two to identify songs where only one share is being collected
Ensure registrations submitted through Mogul correctly associate your writer and publisher shares
If only your publisher entity is connected, Mogul may see your catalog under the publishing entity name but not be able to confirm your songwriter identity, leading to incomplete or inaccurate registration recommendations.
How to check which accounts you have connected
Go to Sources in your Mogul account.
Click on ASCAP in your connected sources list.
If you see only your publishing entity name (e.g., "LIL VIDAL MUSIC") but not your personal songwriter name, you need to add the writer account.
How to add your ASCAP writer account
Go to Sources → Connect a Source.
Select ASCAP.
When prompted, log in using the credentials for your songwriter/writer account (not your publishing entity).
Once connected, you should see your writer name displayed under the ASCAP source in your Sources tab.
You may need to connect ASCAP twice. Once for the writer account and once for the publisher entity, using each account's respective login credentials.
I'm not sure which login is which
Log in to ASCAP's website (ascap.com) and check your account type under your profile settings. If you have multiple accounts associated with your email, ASCAP may let you switch between them.
