SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers) is a U.S. performance rights organization representing songwriters, composers, and music publishers. They license public performances of artists' music and collect royalties on their behalf. SESAC ensures creators receive fair compensation when their works are played on radio, TV, and digital platforms. Continue reading to learn how to register your music with SESAC.

How to Register

Step 1: Login to SESAC here

Step 2: Navigate to the 'Song Management' tab and select 'Song Catalog / Registration'

Registering a Work Individually

Step 3: Select 'Add Song'

Step 4: Fill in the song details of your work

This includes the song title, alternate titles, registration numbers, registration date, and the ISWC number.

Step 5: Scroll down and enter all writer/publishers and their shares

Note that the shares between songwriters and publishers is automatically set to a 50/50 split. So, if you enter 25% as a split in one row of the 'Songwriter/Publisher Shares,' then the songwriter receives 25% and the publisher receives 25%, totaling to 50% for the entire work. The shares must also total to 100%.

Below is a correct representation of what your shares could look like. Hit 'Next' when completed.

Step 6: Select 'Add Recording'

Note that SESAC states that adding a recording is optional but discouraged to skip since they rely on recordings to monitor radio airplay.

Step 7: Fill in all applicable information to add a recording

Scroll down to see an MP3 file upload field. This step may be skipped. Hit 'Save' to save this recording.

Step 8: After adding your recording(s), select 'Next'

Step 9: If you wish to add an advertisement select 'Add Advertisement' and complete the required fields. Otherwise, select 'Next'

Step 10: Review the summary, scroll down, and hit 'Submit to SESAC'

Registering Multiple Works at a Time (Bulk Upload)

Step 3: Select 'Bulk Song/Recordings Upload'

Step 4: Download the bulk upload template by selecting the 'Download Here' hyperlink

Step 5: Fill in the template with all your works and necessary information

Step 6: Save the form in .xlsx format & select 'Browse' to upload your file.

Note that if there are mistakes in your file, SESAC will not allow you to upload your file and will specify your mistakes within the form. In this case, you must correct the mistakes and re-upload the file.

Step 7: Select 'Next,' review the summary of your works, and hit 'Submit'
