Updated over a week ago

SongTrust is a global music publishing administration service that helps songwriters and music rights holders collect royalties from around the world. They simplify the complex process of royalty collection, ensuring that creators receive all the earnings they are entitled to from various platforms and territories. This article will discuss how to register your music with SongTrust to make sure you get paid what you're owed.

How to Register

Step 1: Login to SongTrust here

Step 2: Navigate to 'Menu' and select 'Add Song'

Step 3: Enter your song title and any alternate titles

Step 4: List your songwriters and their splits

Make sure to input the songwriters' names, whether they contributed to the creation of the lyrics, music, or both, and their share of the song. Note that the shares must total to 100%.

To add more writers select 'Add Co-writer' and choose your writer from the drop-down menu.

If you need to add a new writer that is not saved in the drop-down menu, select 'Add new outside co-writer' from the bottom of the drop-down menu.

You will then be prompted to fill out fields regarding your new songwriter. Try your best to complete these fields as accurately as possible.

Step 5: Scroll down and fill in your ISWC and lyrics

Note that these fields are optional, however it is best to have as much information as possible.

Step 6: Select 'Register Song'

You will then receive a pop-up indicating that you are not yet done and must add your ISRC code. Select 'Add ISRC.'

Note that if you choose not to add your ISRC code, the song is added to your library of songs on SongTrust, but is not registered and can not gain royalties.

Step 7: Find your song and add it as a recording

SongTrust automatically tries to find your song by title using their Spotify tool. However it may be easier to search your song by ISRC code.

Select the 'ISRC' tab

Enter your ISRC code and select the plus sign.

Ensure the artist name and song title are correct and select 'Yes.'
