What is Mogul's Catalog Valuation?

Understanding how Mogul calculates the value of your catalog and where to view it in your Mogul dashboard.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Mogul's new catalog valuation tool measures and displays the total value of your catalog, combining your publishing and sound recording data into a single comprehensive report. The valuation is generated by analyzing your streaming and earnings history, age and maturation of your catalog, as well as the expected growth and trajectory of your music's performance and earnings.

You can view key insights about your music including a YoY (year over year) comparison by song, top 10 songs, and earnings comparison by platform. The calculated risk for the catalog valuation helps measure potential success and return on investment, such as an advance or acquisition. There's also an option to explore opportunities for the advanced payment of your expected future earnings.

How We Calculate Your Valuation

Your catalog valuation is based on several factors:

  • Publishing rights: Valued at 4.9x annual earnings

  • Sound recordings: Valued at 3.9x annual earnings

  • Growth trajectory: Catalogs with positive YoY (year-over-year) growth receive higher multiples

  • Concentration risk: Diversified catalogs are valued higher than those dependent on few tracks

  • Catalog age: Established catalogs with consistent history command premium valuations
