What is the Mogul MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants like ChatGPT connect directly to external tools and services. The Mogul MCP brings your entire music business into your ChatGPT conversations β so you can distribute music, manage publishing, query royalty data, generate catalog reports, and more, all through natural conversation.

What You Can Do with Mogul + ChatGPT
Once connected, ChatGPT can act as your AI music business manager. Here's what's possible:
π΅ Distribute a Song
Ask ChatGPT to kick off a distribution for a new release β specify the track, release date, territories, and platforms. ChatGPT will guide you through the process using your Mogul account, reducing the back-and-forth of navigating distribution dashboards manually.
Example prompts:
"Distribute my new single 'Wavelength' to all major platforms with a release date of July 1st."
"What's the status of my last distribution submission?"
π Register Your Publishing
ChatGPT can help you register compositions, add co-writer splits, and manage your publishing metadata through Mogul β all in plain language.
Example prompts:
"Register 'Wavelength' for publishing with a 50/50 split between me and my co-writer."
"Show me all compositions I haven't registered for publishing yet."
π° Talk to Your Royalty Data
Ask natural language questions about your royalties instead of digging through spreadsheets. ChatGPT can pull breakdowns by song, platform, territory, or time period.
Example prompts:
"How much did I earn from Spotify streams last quarter?"
"Which of my songs generated the most mechanical royalties this year?"
"Compare my streaming royalties from Q1 vs Q2."
π Generate Custom Catalog Reports
Get tailored reports on your catalog's performance β by artist, release, platform, or custom date range β without needing to export CSVs or build pivot tables.
Example prompts:
"Give me a full performance report for my album 'Night Sessions' across all platforms."
"Which 5 tracks in my catalog have grown the most in streams over the last 6 months?"
"Export a summary of my top-earning songs for my accountant."
ποΈ Manage Your Catalog
Browse, search, and update your catalog metadata β fix song titles, add ISRC codes, update contributor credits, and keep everything clean and accurate.
Example prompts:
"Show me all tracks missing an ISRC code."
"Update the featured artist credit on 'Wavelength' to include DJ Pulse."
π Stay on Top of Deadlines & Submissions
ChatGPT can help you track submission windows, flag pending tasks, and remind you of upcoming release or registration deadlines within Mogul.
Example prompts:
"Do I have any pending submissions or tasks in Mogul right now?"
"What releases are scheduled in the next 30 days?"
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Mogul + ChatGPT
Be specific β the more detail you give ChatGPT (song titles, dates, platforms), the more precise the results.
Combine tasks β you can ask ChatGPT to distribute a song and register its publishing in a single conversation.
Iterate naturally β if a report isn't quite right, just ask ChatGPT to adjust it: "Break that down by territory instead."
Troubleshooting
I don't see the Developer Mode option.
Make sure you're on a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, or Team). Developer Mode and MCP connections are not available on the free tier.
Mogul isn't connecting.
Double-check that you've entered the URL exactly as https://api.usemogul.com/mcp and the name as Mogul. Even a small typo will prevent the connection from working.
ChatGPT says it can't access my Mogul data.
Try toggling the Mogul app off and back on in Developer Mode, or remove and re-add the connection. Token permissions occasionally expire and need a refresh.
